How are we this far into October?! We've been feeling especially nostalgic this week, thinking about how exciting Halloween used to be when we were little. Back when you could wear your costume to school, spend half the day eating cupcakes, and somehow still have enough energy to go trick-or-treating that night. We have some very specific memories to unpack in this week's Millennial Flashback, and we need your opinion on one of the most important debates of our elementary school years. But first, we've got some true crime to get into. Last week we covered the Dan Markel - Welcome to the Family Parts 1 and 2, if you missed them you can listen here! And last week Patreon Members received Jocelyn Peters on Murder Mixtape and Bring Me the Beauties Part 1 on DocJams. Catch up on those or join the Patreon here! As always, Patrons will receive parts 1 and 2 of the weekly release on Tuesday. If you're feeling a little FOMO and want part 2 immediately, you can check out the Patreon here! Don't forget to make sure you're subscribed to our YouTube Channel! We will have Promising Young Man dropping on YouTube Thursday - you don't want to miss it! Subscribe and watch here! While you're checking out YT, visit Tyrella's channel, Tyrella Off Record to watch her latest videos on all the most talked about cases. Are you in any true crime groups on Facebook?! Or follow Reddit threads on true crime? Make sure to link to This Feels Criminal and invite more friends to join us…because we all know it’s more fun over here! 😘 Currently on Tyrella Off RecordLately, there has been a LOT to keep up with, with all the cases and trial ongoing. That's exactly what Tyrella Off Record is for. The cases everyone's talking about rarely stay still, and you shouldn't have to piece together five different headlines and a TikTok comment section to figure out what actually happened. Whether you prefer longer breakdowns on YouTube, quick updates on Instagram or TikTok, listening podcast-style, or getting The Record Briefing in your inbox each week, Tyrella meets you wherever you like to keep up. No racing to conclusions. Just following the evidence, sorting fact from speculation, and making sense of the developments that actually matter. However you like to stay in the loop, Tyrella Off Record has you covered.
Elementary School Halloween Parties
Remember when Halloween at school was basically the biggest event on the elementary school calendar? You’d show up in your costume, and suddenly the entire school day felt like a party. Nobody was paying attention to spelling words or multiplication tables because there was a kid dressed as a Power Ranger sitting next to you, and somebody’s mom was already setting up cupcakes in the back of the classroom. And those cupcakes ALWAYS had orange frosting, Halloween sprinkles, and a little plastic spider ring stuck on top. You’d lick the frosting off the ring and wear it for the rest of the day like it was a piece of fine jewelry. Then came the classroom party, where the room moms rolled in with Hawaiian Punch, paper plates covered in cartoon pumpkins, popcorn balls, and enough candy to send 25 third graders into orbit. But the real main event was the Halloween costume parade. Every class would march through the hallways while teachers and parents stood around taking pictures with actual cameras. There was always at least one kid who couldn’t see out of their mask, and somebody whose costume kept falling apart. And if you were lucky, your teacher wheeled in that giant TV on a cart so everyone could watch It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown while eating the candy they were supposed to save for later. The best part was knowing you still had trick-or-treating to look forward to that night. You’d already spent an entire school day in a costume, eaten approximately six pounds of sugar, and somehow the biggest event hadn’t even happened yet. Honestly, elementary school Halloween parties were a level of excitement we haven’t experienced since. We’d like to formally thank every classroom mom who showed up with 30 cupcakes, a gallon of punch, and absolutely no concern for what the teachers had to deal with afterward. Your Turn to Pick the CaseYou know that one story you wish more people were talking about? Yeah… we want that one. Send us your case suggestions and you might hear it featured in a future episode. We hope you get a chance to enjoy some of the fun little things about October before it's over. Watch your favorite Halloween movie, eat the Reese's before anybody else finds them, and maybe take a second to appreciate how much effort our elementary school teachers put into making Halloween feel magical. Don't forget to vote in this week's Halloween poll before you go. We're genuinely curious whether everyone else remembers those costume parades as fondly as we do. |

Think of it as the after-hours version of the show.
We're officially at that point in October where Halloween candy has been in the house for two weeks, the decorations are either fully up or still sitting in a storage bin, and every trip to Target somehow ends with something pumpkin-shaped in the cart. We'd love to say we're exercising some self-control, but there's a pretty good chance the candy we bought for trick-or-treaters is going to need replacing before October 31. And speaking of Halloween, we've been thinking about how much fun this...
We have officially entered the part of the year where every morning requires a small investigation before getting dressed. It's chilly when you wake up, somehow 78 degrees by lunch, and by the time you figure out whether you need a sweater, the weather has changed its mind again. Welcome to October. 🍂 We're settling into spooky season over here, which means the Halloween decorations are coming out, we're pretending buying another seasonal candle is a completely reasonable financial decision,...
Is anyone else at the point in the year where every week feels like it lasts approximately three days? You blink, it's Monday. You answer a few emails, suddenly it's Thursday. Then somehow you're standing in the kitchen on Sunday night wondering what exactly happened to the weekend. So we're officially giving you permission to ignore whatever you're supposed to be doing for a few minutes and hang out with us instead. Last week we covered Reckless Ben & The Lego Saga Parts 1 and 2, if you...
