Reckless Ben and The Lego Saga

Happy Tuesday, friend!

We need to know who decided September was allowed to move this fast.

Because somehow we're already at that point where the mornings feel a little more like fall, the calendar is packed, and we're starting to realize all those things we said we'd “get to once summer was over” are now staring directly at us.

Rude.

So grab your coffee, ignore your to-do list for a few minutes, and come hang out with us because we have a very weird one for you this week.

It starts with a Star Wars LEGO collection, which sounds innocent enough, but it does not stay that way.

And later, we're heading back to elementary school P.E., where apparently the President of the United States needed to know whether a bunch of 10-year-olds could do a flexed-arm hang.

We've clearly got a lot to discuss.

Last week we covered Jessica Gonzales and Castle Rock Parts 1 and 2, if you missed them you can listen here!

And last week Patreon Members received Lisa Froon and Kris Kremers on Murder Mixtape and Worst Neighbor Ever Part 3 on DocJams. Catch up on those or join the Patreon here!

As always, Patrons will receive parts 1 and 2 of the weekly release on Tuesday.

If you're feeling a little FOMO and want part 2 immediately, you can check out the Patreon here!

Don't forget to make sure you're subscribed to our YouTube Channel!

We will have Reckless Ben and The Lego Saga dropping on YouTube Thursday - you don't want to miss it! Subscribe and watch here!

Currently on Tyrella Off Record

Lately, there has been a LOT to keep up with, with all the cases and trial ongoing.

That's exactly what Tyrella Off Record is for. The cases everyone's talking about rarely stay still, and you shouldn't have to piece together five different headlines and a TikTok comment section to figure out what actually happened.

Whether you prefer longer breakdowns on YouTube, quick updates on Instagram or TikTok, listening podcast-style, or getting The Record Briefing in your inbox each week, Tyrella meets you wherever you like to keep up.

No racing to conclusions. Just following the evidence, sorting fact from speculation, and making sense of the developments that actually matter.

However you like to stay in the loop, Tyrella Off Record has you covered.

The Presidential Fitness Test

There were normal days in elementary school P.E.

And then there was the day your gym teacher apparently decided it was time to find out whether you were physically prepared to defend the nation.

The Presidential Fitness Test.

Suddenly, a bunch of 10-year-olds who had spent the morning eating Pop-Tarts and watching Bill Nye were being evaluated like we were entering the NFL Draft.

First came the sit-ups.

You'd lie on the gym floor while another kid held your feet and your teacher stood nearby counting how many you could do before your abdominal muscles simply resigned.

Then there was the sit-and-reach box.

An actual wooden box whose sole purpose seemed to be publicly documenting which children could touch their toes.

But nothing compared to...

The flexed-arm hang. A.K.A.

They'd put you on a bar, get your chin above it, and then just...

let go.

And everyone watched.

Your arms would immediately start shaking while the gym teacher stared at a stopwatch and yelled encouragement as though an Olympic medal was riding on this.

"COME ON! HOLD IT!"

Ma'am, I am nine.

Eventually your chin dropped below the bar and you'd walk away with the humbling knowledge that you had successfully supported your own body weight for 4.7 seconds.

And then came the event we all feared.

The mile.

Four laps around the track.

No AirPods.

No cute running shoes.

No little watch telling you your pace.

Just you, your classmates, and the realization halfway through lap two that perhaps you should not have gone quite so hard during the first 200 yards.

There was always one kid absolutely FLYING.

There was always a group who immediately decided this would be more of a social walk.

And the rest of us were scattered around the track trying desperately not to be the last person to finish while everyone who was already done sat in the grass watching.

All of this was apparently happening because the President needed to know.

At least that's how it felt.

We didn't have wellness trackers.

We didn't have recovery days.

We had a wooden box, a stopwatch, and a gym teacher holding a clipboard.

And somehow, we survived.

Although some of us are still emotionally recovering from the flexed-arm hang.

Your Turn to Pick the Case

You know that one story you wish more people were talking about?

Yeah… we want that one.

Send us your case suggestions and you might hear it featured in a future episode.

Suggest a case here.

Thank you, as always, for spending a little piece of your week with us. Whether you listen while you're driving to work, folding laundry, avoiding folding laundry, or hiding from everyone for 20 minutes with your headphones in, we're really glad you're here.

And if this week's Millennial Flashback unlocked a deeply buried memory of dangling from a pull-up bar while your entire P.E. class watched, just know we're right there with you.

Some things heal with time.

The Presidential Fitness Test apparently isn't one of them.

We'll be back in your inbox next Tuesday.

We're officially at that point in October where Halloween candy has been in the house for two weeks, the decorations are either fully up or still sitting in a storage bin, and every trip to Target somehow ends with something pumpkin-shaped in the cart. We'd love to say we're exercising some self-control, but there's a pretty good chance the candy we bought for trick-or-treaters is going to need replacing before October 31. And speaking of Halloween, we've been thinking about how much fun this...

We have officially entered the part of the year where every morning requires a small investigation before getting dressed. It's chilly when you wake up, somehow 78 degrees by lunch, and by the time you figure out whether you need a sweater, the weather has changed its mind again. Welcome to October. 🍂 We're settling into spooky season over here, which means the Halloween decorations are coming out, we're pretending buying another seasonal candle is a completely reasonable financial decision,...

Is anyone else at the point in the year where every week feels like it lasts approximately three days? You blink, it's Monday. You answer a few emails, suddenly it's Thursday. Then somehow you're standing in the kitchen on Sunday night wondering what exactly happened to the weekend. So we're officially giving you permission to ignore whatever you're supposed to be doing for a few minutes and hang out with us instead. Last week we covered Reckless Ben & The Lego Saga Parts 1 and 2, if you...
