Lindsay Clancy Verdict

Remember when getting home from school meant throwing your backpack on the floor, grabbing a snack, and immediately logging onto AIM to see who was online?

There was something about that little door-opening sound that made it feel like the evening had officially begun.

You'd check your Buddy List, see whether that one person was online, and then proceed to do absolutely nothing about it.

Maybe sign off and back on once or twice so they noticed you.

Very subtle. Very emotionally mature.

Honestly, we were basically running tiny PR campaigns from the family computer room before any of us knew what PR was.

Anyway, we're logged on and have plenty to catch up on this week.

Last week we covered Tupac's Murder + Keefy D Trial Parts 1 and 2, if you missed them you can listen here!

And last week Patreon Members received Calista Springer on Murder Mixtape and Worst Neighbor Ever Part 1 on DocJams. Catch up on those or join the Patreon here!

Lately, there has been a LOT to keep up with, with all the cases and trial ongoing.

The Lindsay Clancy trial is still front and center as the jury cotinues to deliberate, with Tyrella breaking down the biggest developments coming out of the courtroom.

But that's not the only case moving.

That's exactly what Tyrella Off Record is for. The cases everyone's talking about rarely stay still, and you shouldn't have to piece together five different headlines and a TikTok comment section to figure out what actually happened.

Whether you prefer longer breakdowns on YouTube, quick updates on Instagram or TikTok, listening podcast-style, or getting The Record Briefing in your inbox each week, Tyrella meets you wherever you like to keep up.

No racing to conclusions. Just following the evidence, sorting fact from speculation, and making sense of the developments that actually matter.

However you like to stay in the loop, Tyrella Off Record has you covered.

AIM Away Messages

Before Instagram Stories, vague Facebook statuses, and subtweets, Millennials had our own way of letting everyone know we were going through something.

✨The AIM away message✨

And somehow, we turned “I'm not at my computer right now” into an entire form of emotional expression.

You could simply write:

brb dinner

But where was the drama in that?

Instead, we'd post three lines of song lyrics that were very clearly about someone, add a few strategically placed <3s, and maybe finish with:

xoxo... you know who you are.

NO. THEY DID NOT KNOW WHO THEY WERE.

Neither did the other 47 people on your Buddy List.

Then there was the real psychological warfare: signing off and immediately signing back on so your screen name would pop up on everyone's computer.

Because obviously your crush might see xxBaByGiRL87xx has signed on and suddenly realize they were madly in love with you.

And let's not forget carefully checking someone's away message multiple times to see if they'd changed it.

We had no read receipts, no typing bubbles, and no location sharing.

Just a cryptic Dashboard Confessional lyric and a dream.

Honestly, AIM walked so passive-aggressive Instagram Stories could run.

We're officially at that point in October where Halloween candy has been in the house for two weeks, the decorations are either fully up or still sitting in a storage bin, and every trip to Target somehow ends with something pumpkin-shaped in the cart. We'd love to say we're exercising some self-control, but there's a pretty good chance the candy we bought for trick-or-treaters is going to need replacing before October 31. And speaking of Halloween, we've been thinking about how much fun this...

We have officially entered the part of the year where every morning requires a small investigation before getting dressed. It's chilly when you wake up, somehow 78 degrees by lunch, and by the time you figure out whether you need a sweater, the weather has changed its mind again. Welcome to October. 🍂 We're settling into spooky season over here, which means the Halloween decorations are coming out, we're pretending buying another seasonal candle is a completely reasonable financial decision,...

Is anyone else at the point in the year where every week feels like it lasts approximately three days? You blink, it's Monday. You answer a few emails, suddenly it's Thursday. Then somehow you're standing in the kitchen on Sunday night wondering what exactly happened to the weekend. So we're officially giving you permission to ignore whatever you're supposed to be doing for a few minutes and hang out with us instead. Last week we covered Reckless Ben & The Lego Saga Parts 1 and 2, if you...
